Game Recap

The Mineral Ridge Rams and the United Eagles met in Canfield this evening in an OHSAA District Final match. This was the Rams first ever trip to a District Final and it was a bittersweet affair. The match would start with United ceremoniously playing the ball out of play on their 2nd touch, allowing the Rams to start Senior Captain Braedynn Porter, but immediately substituting her off at the beginning of the game. Porter had suffered a fractured ankle in the District Semifinal match against Crestview on Tuesday. When play resumed United and Ridge set about the task of trying to break each other down. The Rams would enjoy the majority of possession through most of the 1st half but would struggle in the final third and would not score. The Eagles however would find the net on 3 occasions mostly on the quick counter attacking speed of United forward Johnathan Logan. The Eagles would lead the Rams 3-0 at halftime. The 2nd half would be very similar to the 1st with the Rams possessing more but still struggling to score. United would add to their lead bringing it to 4-0. The Rams would finally get on the board courtesy of Garret Smith who would convert a penalty kick and then score again on a free kick. The Rams had drawn within 2 and the momentum was growing but time was also running out quickly. In the end, the Rams would lose to United 5-2. The Rams end their 2017 season as District Finalists with a 15-4 record.
